Job Description
The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager and the Center Physician to support plasma center operations. Responsibilities include determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. The role supports center-level operations and follows Bio Life Medical Affairs guidance for environmental, health, and safety.
How you will contribute- Determine donor eligibility by managing informed consent, conducting medical history interviews, assessing acceptance requirements, performing physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing serological protein electrophoresis.
- Evaluate donor reactions at the facility as outlined in SOPs.
- Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Consult the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings or medical issues.
- Support hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents and assess need for occupational health evaluation.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized, supporting investigations of pandemic threats.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Licensed or certified RN, NP, or PA in the state of assignment.
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- State licensing for basic IV therapy.
- Completion of FDA approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Minimum two years of clinical or hospital experience.
