The purpose of this position is to perform general, manual labor duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water and wastewater distribution and conveyance system.

• Assist in preparing job site; clear access to manhole using a bush axe or sling blade; ensure entry and exit at excavation site; visually inspect manholes and construction site.
• Locate and identify water lines, sewer lines, and stormwater lines to be repaired and utilities that must be excavated around.
• Assist in installation, maintenance and repair of water lines, sewer lines, and stormwater lines; clear debris from manholes, sewer lines, sewer stream crossings, easements, valve boxes, etc.; diagnose leaks, blockages or other problems; raise manholes; plaster manholes; build inverts; cut valves, tees, and beds; saw cut roads and streets; replace service lines; perform confined space entries in manholes; clean manholes and lines;
  
  change out sewer rings and lids on manholes, fire hydrants, grassing, sod; repair asphalt, concrete, yards and other areas disrupted by repair work; may perform smoke testing and manhole inspections using a pole camera, etc.
• Make sure work sites/roads are clear of debris after job completion.
• Flag and direct traffic; place markers, signs, and cones around project or work site to ensure safety of crew and traveling public.
• Gather tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; load and unload materials, equipment, tools, and supplies; clean and wash equipment and tools; perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs as needed; notify crew leader/supervisor of needed equipment replacements and repairs.
• Operate or use various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete work assignments; operate and maintain tapping machine, saws, pumps, grouting equipment, tamps, rollers, jackhammers, thumpers, and other tools and equipment.
• Build, install, and retrofit meters to bring to standard; repair water main breaks; replace water services; replace fire hydrants; fix packing and gaskets in vaults; replace water valves; repair meters; flush water lines.
• Perform other assigned duties.

• High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

• Valid Georgia driver’s license.

• This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as work involving lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Tasks typically involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; may also involve pushing and/or pulling heavy objects; may require perception of colors, sounds, odors, depth, texture, and visual cues; may require oral communication.

• Exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, noise extremes, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/human bites, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
• Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
• Position works on call as required.
