SUMMARY

The Welder assembles and welds metal components and subassemblies using GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), or other approved welding processes. This position interprets prints and work instructions, prepares and fits components, performs in-process inspections, and produces completed assemblies that meet Morton Industries’ safety, quality, and production standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Review production schedules, work orders, prints, process sheets, and applicable work instructions.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment using the appropriate process, settings, materials, and consumables.
  • Fit, tack, and finish-weld metal components and subassemblies according to customer and company specifications.
  • Interpret prints, weld symbols, dimensions, tolerances, and assembly sequences.
  • Inspect component parts and completed weldments using approved gauges, fixtures, and measuring equipment.
  • Verify that materials, components, and completed assemblies conform to print and quality requirements.
  • Lay out reference points, weld locations, and assembly positions as required.
  • Use fixtures, Bluco tables, layout tables, clamps, and other tools to position and secure components.
  • Correct component alignment or dimensional concerns using approved heating, clamping, straightening, or restraining methods.
  • Operate grinders, sanders, drills, saws, and other hand or power tools required to complete assigned work.
  • Complete welding, brazing, grinding, finishing, and related assembly operations as required.
  • Identify and report weld defects, dimensional concerns, equipment problems, and material discrepancies.
  • Perform rework or repairs according to approved instructions and quality requirements.
  • Complete required production, quality, scrap, and traceability documentation accurately and on time.
  • Handle and move materials safely using approved lifting equipment and material-handling practices.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, fixtures, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, work instructions, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Meet established productivity expectations while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, Team Leads, Quality, Material Handling, and Production leadership.
  • Support cross-training, continuous-improvement activities, and other production areas as business needs require.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Welding education, certification, or related manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience with GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), or other applicable welding processes based on assignment.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints, weld symbols, work instructions, and measuring devices.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math and dimensional calculations.
  • Ability to identify common welding defects and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Ability to use welding equipment, fixtures, hand tools, power tools, and inspection equipment safely.
  • Ability to complete required weld testing or qualification standards for the assigned work.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime or support other departments when business needs require.
