LANGUAGE SUPPORT SPECIALIST - DISTRICT WIDE

$22.99 per hour

3.75 hours per day

Work under the direction of the Special Education Teacher/Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to facilitate learning English and American Sign Language/Pidgin Signed English (ASL/PSE) for students who are deaf/hard of hearing in a variety of settings.

• Training and skill in American Sign Language/Pidgin Signed English (ASL/PSE).
• Ability to adapt and present curriculum under direction of the teaching staff to match student's level of understanding.
• Basic knowledge of language development.
• Ability to work well with a wide variety of adults and children.
• Ability to teach and mentor language development, both spoken and signed depending on the student's IEP language goals.

• Training or experience in childhood development and/or elementary education.
• Training or experience in helping children with special needs.
• Willingness to help students, peers, staff and others in the understanding and use of sign language.
• Willingness to participate in team meetings.
