The faculty base salary will be bought out and the stipend will be funded by VPAI for AY26-27.

The director of curricular innovation supports efforts to improve the academic quality, financial viability, and efficiency of academic curricula, particularly degree programs. These efforts focus on improving academic achievement levels, time to degree, and degree conferral rates for UI students, as well as cost efficiency. To achieve these goals, the director supports curricular revisions to incorporate lower- and upper-division opportunities for experiential learning and to ensure that learning objectives are sequenced to support timely progress through the degree program.

The director furthers efforts to build an entrepreneurial culture among UI faculty and academic leaders to ensure that the university’s portfolio of academic programs remains financially sustainable. In addition, the director helps to streamline the curricular proposal and approval processes to improve UI’s competitiveness and ensure proposals are both academically rigorous and financially viable. All efforts are guided by the vice provost for academic initiatives (VPAI), to whom the director reports.

To achieve these goals, the director collaborates extensively with colleagues in and outside the VPAI team.

This administrative appointment or the administrative portion of the faculty appointment is temporary. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event there is no longer a need for the administrative assignment, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may change this Agreement and remove the administrative salary and/or course release during the contract year and employee may return to their faculty appointment, upon 60 days written notice.
