Posting Context Statement:

The IMCI Image and Data Acquisition Core (IDAC) Manager reports tothe IDAC Director and IMCI Director within the University of Idaho's Institute for Modeling Collaboration and Innovation (IMCI).The position oversees operation, maintenance, service and user training for core research equipment, including flow cytometers,microscopes, ddPCR, calorimetry, surface plasmon resonance andpinning robots. The Manager administers user charges, provides coreusage statistics, coordinates vendor support and maintainsproductive relationships with University personnel, equipment usersand vendors.

This position will work between 20-30 hours perweek.

Position Overview:

Provides functional supervision of day-to-day activities of alaboratory or field research enterprise, including directing the activities of graduate and undergraduate students, staffresearchers and research support staff. Develops guidelines and protocols for lab operations. Assures quality control; maintainsbudget; and operates, tests and repairs electronic and/orscientific test equipment used. Assists with the construction and modification of new and prototype scientific devices.

Duties may include:

Providing consulting services to department management, publicand private sector entities
Providing final review of policies and procedures; recommendingchanges based on prevailing scientific evidence
Supervising scientific/technical staff
Directing and/or planning and implementing a component of thescientific program
Directing and/or developing and monitoring research projects in conjunction with other agencies
Directing and/or preparing reports assessing use, distribution,fate, exposure, and probability of adverse effects of chemicals and/or radiological constituents or other hazardous substances in specific use situations
Directing and/or developing and/ or providing final detailedreview of risk assessments and making recommendations for improvement where risk level is unacceptable
Establishing work priorities and performance standards; may be involved in hiring, training, evaluating staff, assigning and reviewing work
Making managerial decisions that directly affect the efficiency, cost, reputation and service quality of the laboratory
Developing budgets, distributing budgeted funds, and exercisingthe primary control over a relatively small budget
Other duties as assigned

Required Experience:

Two years of post-Bachelor's research work to include technical/administrative experience in research operations

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in biology or related STEM discipline

Additional Preferred:

Strong lab-based research experience
Technical expertise/experience with either flow cytometry orconfocal microscopy or both
Interest in expanding expertise in new and cutting-edge technologies
Knowledge of research methods, statistics and principles ofoptics, microscopy or cytometry
Technical expertise in at least one of the following areas:flow cytometry, microscopy and image acquisition techniques
Laboratory research management experience including monitoringsafety compliance, training personnel and budgeting and procuringnecessary supplies/equipment
Experience with developing technical written materials, such asscientific/lab protocols
Ability to communicate effectively with students, scientists,administrators and vendors, orally and in writing
Strong customer service orientation
