Position Details

Part‑time: 12–29 hours/week

Schedule:

Varies, mostly mid‑day and closing shifts; weekend availability required; must be available to work during holidays and university breaks; preference given to applicants available through the 2026/20207 school year.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Cashier
  • Operate the cash register quickly and efficiently.
  • Complete morning and nighttime money counts and maintain day sheets.
  • Promote membership and cooperatives to all customers; sign up new owners consistently.
  • Keep the cash register area clean and supplies well stocked.
  • Fill out special orders for customers.
  • Help out in the store when not needed as a cashier.
  • Maintain accurate entries on register and on day sheet and include written explanations on day sheet where necessary.
  • Seek out information about store product to better serve customers.
  • Clean and tidy register area each shift and complete other cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Understand intercom system and call for backup in a timely fashion; able to use the phone system.
  • When 1st cashier, always look attentive and friendly; greet customers, keep register area clean, sort out paper and plastic bags; organize baskets.
  • When 2nd or 3rd cashier, if not needed at the register, bring in carts, offer customers help, fronts, clean, offer help to Grocery and Wellness departments, help with freight on freight days.
  • Complete PCI training yearly, as requested by management.
  • Complete all other tasks as assigned by the Front End management team.
Co‑op Performance Standards Customer Service
  • Demonstrate excellent customer skills, both internally and externally; follow the 10‑4 service rule.
  • Make yourself available to customers; greet each customer promptly with a smile.
  • Handle customer complaints and questions courteously.
  • Coordinate with all supervisors and leads to address customer concerns, questions or thoughts (i.e., refunds, oops coupons, angry customers, broken machinery, etc.).
  • Help customers place special orders.
  • Accurately and completely record special orders and ensure the forms are delivered for processing.
Communication
  • Communicate directly and professionally, following the Moscow Food Co‑op Coworker Conduct Commitment.
