Position OverviewThe Campus & Event Safety/Security Officer provides a multitude of services that create a safe and secure environment for the university community on a day‑to‑day basis as well as during events happening throughout campus. This essential position may be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure, and plays a key role in strengthening relationships with on‑campus and off‑campus stakeholders through exemplary customer service.
Duties- Conduct general security patrol on campus and at events and report emergencies to university, city or state officials
- Assist with Safe Walks, extra patrol requests, building lockouts and on‑call notifications
- Enforce university alcohol policies
- Monitor access control, check credentials, check tickets and enforce clear bag requirements
- Other duties as assigned
- Using computer software and applications including word‑processing software, spreadsheets, email and internet
- Working in a team environment to accomplish shared goals
- Following documented policies and procedures
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to work a non‑standard schedule to meet the needs of the department
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university‑owned vehicles
- Knowledge of safety and security operations and best practices
- One year experience as a safety/security officer
- Demonstrated competence with written and verbal communication
- Must be able to:
- Move around and between venues throughout the workday
- Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 40 pounds occasionally
- Bend, stoop, shovel and be comfortable working at significant heights
- Traverse any part of campus including asphalt, sidewalks, grass, dirt, playgrounds, etc.
- Sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Work in inclement weather conditions
