The Gen Tech I or II position works in Campus Services providing maintenance and building support to their assigned area. This role reports to Campus Services, the largest unit in Auxiliary Services, and works primarily in the residence halls and multi-use facilities (Idaho Student Union Building, ICCU Arena, PF1CU Kibbie Dome and others). This role is critical in providing routine and preventive maintenance and ensuring all buildings under Campus Services are maintained at the highest level for the students, staff, and community members who utilize our services.
General Technician I
This position will perform general building maintenance tasks on a regular and continuing basis. It will provide general support for a variety of construction, trades, landscaping, exterior service and maintenance areas to repair and maintain university facilities and grounds. Job duties will vary widely depending on the work and projects assigned.
Duties may include:
- Utilize basic tools and equipment
- Repair and maintain basic machinery, equipment and facility property
- Assist with routine facility inspections and monitor cleanliness
- Assist with inventory and distribution of deliveries
- Manually move and transfer items
- Participate in snow removal
- Other duties as assigned
General Technician II
This position independently performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties that vary widely depending on the work and projects assigned. It is responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing university equipment and facilities. The position will provide support for construction, maintenance and other skilled trade professionals to meet university needs.
Duties may include:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs to university facilities
- Assist trades, crafts, vendors and technical staff with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed
- Repair and maintain machinery, equipment and facilities
- Perform routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitor cleanliness
- Receive, inspect, inventory and distribute deliveries independently to appropriate entities
- Three years performing semi-skilled maintenance tasks
Required Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Other
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
- Be at least 18 years of age
Additional Preferred
- Experience:
- Working in construction or building maintenance
- Using power tools and equipment
- Expressed interest in learning and acquiring skills related to building maintenance
- Experience:
- With heating and cooling system maintenance and repairs
- With basic components and functions of electrical systems, plumbing systems, heating ventilation systems, roofing systems, security lock systems and mechanical systems in residential type dwellings
- Installing carpet, sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl plank and/or ceramic tile
- Post-secondary education and/or license in one or more of the following areas: plumbing, electrical or HVAC
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Must be able to:
- Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
- Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lifts
- Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday
- Work in inclement weather conditions
