BASIC FUNCTION

The Street Maintenance Worker is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of city infrastructure, including streets, alleys, sidewalks, structures, streetlights, traffic signals, fiber optic networks, and related facilities. This role involves a variety of tasks ranging from routine maintenance to emergency response and requires the ability to operate equipment, adhere to safety protocols, and communicate effectively with team members and the public.

Apprentice

Street Maintenance Worker
- Apprentice is an entry-level position that performs assigned duties under direct supervision.

Journey

Street Maintenance Worker
- Journey employees are generally specialized in the operation, maintenance, and repairs of City Street systems and related facilities. Journey-level employees are capable of accomplishing the full range of tasks as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the division.

Senior

Street Maintenance Worker
- Senior positions are more technically advanced and may serve in a lead capacity in their specific area or in other interdepartmental specialties as assigned; they may also serve as the responsible party on job sites as assigned. Performs and leads operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting activities to identify and remedy problems and/or malfunctions in order to ensure continuous operation of the Streets Division in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.

Functions

  • Act as the Responsible Person while on call for the Moscow Public Works and Services Group.
  • Investigate customer complaints of streets problems and respectfully resolve those problems in a timely manner to maintain positive relations with residents.
  • Perform repair and maintenance activities of the street system to ensure safe, effective operations in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.
  • Monitor stock levels of repair and maintenance parts and supplies to maintain required quantities. Reorder materials as required. Perform yard maintenance, maintain assigned equipment, and maintain material stockpiles.
  • Respond to Public Works Emergencies after hours as needed.
  • Install and remove large and small banners. Ensure MUTCD compliance of all roadway signage and temporary traffic control work zones.

Apprentice

As directed performs duties in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City infrastructure including streets, alleys, sidewalks, structures, sidewalks, curbs, ADA ramps, streetlights, traffic signals, fiber optic networks, street signs, pavement markings, and related facilities. Under direct supervision of a Traffic Control Technician, install traffic control for work zones and special events such as parades and block parties. Assist in the operation of a variety of equipment used in street, fiber, and stormwater maintenance.

Operate snow removal equipment including plows, sand and salt, magnesium chloride application equipment, dump trucks, graders with snow gates, front-end loader, and snow blower. Install and maintain all paint and thermal plastic pavement markings to current MUTCD standards. Assist in sweeping all City streets, parking lots, and alleys. Assist in maintaining and repairing City and state-owned traffic signals. Assist in pruning trees and shrubs in sight triangles and rights of way throughout the City per city code.

Assist in using surveying equipment to check grades and elevations. Assist in guardrail maintenance.
