Job Description

POSITION POSTING

Columbia Middle School is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Middle School Athletic Director on the MLEA Co‑curricular schedule. Moses Lake Middle Schools participate in the North Central Washington Middle School League (NCW). The Moses Lake School District is committed to teaching and developing useful, life‑long skills in its student athletes.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Washington State Teacher certificate with degree and/or endorsement in Secondary Education.
  • Preferred Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration or Registered/Certified Athletic Administrator with the NIAAA.
  • Currently hold, or ability and ability to obtain, First Aid, CPR, AED Certification.
  • Currently hold, or ability and ability to obtain, MLSD Type II Certification.
  • Previous Athletic Director and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous secondary head coaching experience preferred.
  • Previous secondary level teaching experience preferred.
  • Willingness to work in co‑curricular programs.
  • Have experience with, knowledge of, skill in, and support of shared decision‑making.
  • Have experience, knowledge, and skill in working with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rules and regulations.
  • Ability and interest in working with underserved students.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the district/department may find appropriate and acceptable.

  • Demonstrated self‑motivation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community.

  • Ability to assume a leadership role in co‑curricular development.
  • Advanced organizational, time management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be willing and able to work beyond the normal school day in a flexible schedule as dependent on evening and weekend events.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with management of middle level athletics and activities.
  • Maintain and administer MLSD Board Policies 2150, 2151 and 2152 and current practices as set forth by District Administration and the School Board.
  • Assist coaches in providing the 14 Legal Duties of Care as outlined by NFHS and the NIAAA.
  • Demonstrated commitment and interest in athletics and activities.
  • Ability to work with staff and participate in site‑based decision making processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
DUTIES
  • Prepare a master budget and supervise equipment inventories.
  • Prepare a master sports calendar that includes conference and non‑conference games/events.
  • Coordinate gym, building and athletic field use with the District Community Schools and maintain the District use calendar.
  • Coordinate gym use for practices and games and give final clearance for the use of either gym or the athletic field.
  • Work with coaching staff and transportation supervisor to schedule all athletic departure times.
  • Arrange travel and overnight accommodations for players or athletic teams (and coaches) competing in postseason competition.
  • Seek and recommend suitable competition for all non‑conference events/games.
  • Request and hire all officials for 7‑8 grade athletic events.
  • Confirm official’s and non‑conference contest contracts.
  • Secure game workers for athletic contests, chain crews, announcers, clock operators, score keepers, line judges, etc.
  • Coordinate the collection of rosters for program information as needed.
  • Act as a resource person and coordinator for all coaches.
  • Assist in supervision of home athletic contests.
  • Coordinate the hiring of coaches for the athletic program.
  • Evaluate all athletic programs on an annual basis. Make recommendations for improvement to the building principal and district administrator.
