Coordinates activities or performs specialized duties to assist in providing instruction to and supervising students in a variety of instructional and non‑instructional programs.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or ETS test required.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must be accurate and efficient at completing tasks on time without constant/direct supervision.
- Ability to relate in a positive manner with students, parents, and staff/teachers, supervisory staff.
- Must be able to work effectively with small groups or individual students under the supervision of certificated staff.
- Ability to accurately keep records.
- Must be willing to respond with compassion to a student needing assistance with personal care, including verbally coaching students through such situations.
- Meet performance expectations as outlined in MLSD #161 Classified Employee Performance Evaluation.
- Always punctual; informs supervisor early of unavoidable absences to maintain workflow.
- Maintains a well‑groomed and neat appearance, dressing appropriately for assignments.
- Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Promptly and accurately follows specific instructions and performs duties with a positive attitude.
- Follows duty schedule and prescribed behavior plans as assigned.
- Applies appropriate discipline according to district procedures and behavior plans.
- Works independently and solves problems with minimal supervision.
- Works well with special‑needs children in small groups or individually to convey learning objectives outlined in IEPs under certificated staff supervision.
- Builds positive relationships with special‑needs students.
- Encourages special‑needs students to develop positive relationships with peers.
- Willing to receive Non‑violent Crisis Intervention and Non‑violent Restraint training.
- Effectively intervenes and controls students who become out of control (e.g., fighting, acting out, tantrums) using approved restraint methods.
- Receives training to gain an understanding of specific disabilities.
- Responsibly supervises special‑needs students in the classroom; oversees supervision upon arrival and departure.
- Monitors activities to ensure safety and compliance with school rules.
- Willingness to provide emergency first aid as necessary and obtain/possess a current First Aid card.
- Physical ability to perform required duties.
- Willingness to receive training in crisis intervention and/or restraining techniques as directed by certified staff.
- Willingness to assist with medically fragile children and work with students with behavior difficulties.
- Must be able to work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
- Must have the ability to apply appropriate discipline according to district procedures.
- Ability to interpret as needed if the individual possesses multiple language skills.
- Maintain excellent attendance.
- Maintain district‑assigned email; read and respond to messages daily.
- Other duties as assigned.
