Associate Faculty Positions In GED/HS+ Programs
Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for Associate Faculty positions in GED/HS+ Programs. This position is responsible for preparing and teaching courses in GED/HS+ Programs. This position will teach English as a Second Language (ESL) or reading, math, writing skills, and other high school credits required for graduation to adults who have minimal basic skills or do not have a high school diploma.
Students may work toward learning English, a GED, or if 18 years or older, a high school diploma (HS+). This position reports to the Director of BEdA and works closely with other faculty and staff. To work at BBCC you will be participating in a movement. Compensation:
Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is based on $987.71/lecture credit. We are seeking day faculty in Science and Math, as well as evening faculty across all subject areas.
Job Duties
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
- Provide instruction in ESL, GED, and/or High School+ courses in alignment with Big Bend Community College (BBCC) and Washington State standards.
- Develop and implement effective lesson plans and deliver engaging instruction for adult learners.
- Meet with students each quarter to create individualized goal plans and provide ongoing support and follow-up to track progress.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records; submit attendance weekly and complete a signed, comprehensive attendance report at the end of each quarter.
- Administer required pre- and post-assessments using CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) for students enrolled in ABE/GED courses.
- Evaluate student performance and prepare documentation to support accreditation and program reporting for submission to the BEdA Director.
- Participate in all required trainings, professional development activities, and institutional meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in education, English, TESOL, Adult Education, or a related field
- At least one (1) year of teaching experience, preferably with adult learners (ABE, ESL, GED, or HS+ programs)
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and/or English language acquisition principles
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
- Experience assessing student progress, including familiarity with standardized assessments (e.g., CASAS or similar tools)
- Ability to maintain accurate records (attendance, student progress, reporting) and meet deadlines
- Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Basic proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems (LMS)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Adult Education, TESOL, Education, or a related field
- Relevant teaching certification (e.g., ESL/TESOL endorsement, Washington State Adult Education certification)
- Experience teaching in ESL, GED, ABE, or High School+ programs at a community or technical college
- Experience administering CASAS assessments and familiarity with state/federal reporting requirements
- Subject matter expertise in GED/HS+ content areas (math, science, language arts, or social studies)
