6.50 hrs per day/180 workdays per year

Shift time is subject to building needs.

Qualifications:

If you do not have the minimum college credits for this position, you may take the Para educator Assessment. Complete this FORM if you'd like to be scheduled for the assessment.

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have earned 72 college level credits from an institution of higher education, have a college degree, or be able to pass the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Assessment.
  • Previous experience working with pupils in both individual and small group instructional situations.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must have basic computer skills including the Google Suite (docs, sheets, and slides), use of email, typing and be familiar with library setup and shelving system as well as the Follet Destiny system for inventory.
  • Must have a proven record of consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; able to bend/stoop down to shelve books and assist with inventory.
  • Elementary school experience preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred
Essential Job Functions:
  • Meet performance expectations as outlined in the Moses Lake School District Para educator Evaluation process.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and literacy-rich library environment that encourages a lifelong love of reading and learning.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate literacy enrichment activities that support student engagement, reading development, and information literacy skills.
  • Provide instructional support to students individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings under the direction of certificated staff.
  • Read aloud to students and assist in promoting reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and independent reading habits.
  • Assist students and staff with locating, selecting, and utilizing print and digital library resources.
  • Support students in conducting research using library databases, the Destiny library management system, and other approved educational resources.
  • Manage circulation functions including checking materials in and out, renewing materials, processing holds, and maintaining accurate library records.
  • Catalog, shelve, organize, inventory, and maintain library materials to ensure accessibility and efficient use of resources.
  • Inspect, repair, and process library materials as needed to maintain the library collection.
  • Assist in evaluating, selecting, ordering, and processing new library materials consistent with district curriculum and instructional goals.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, attractive, and functional library environment that supports student learning and staff use.
  • Provide technology support for students and staff, including troubleshooting Chromebook issues, distributing replacement devices and chargers, submitting technology service requests, and coordinating with the Technology Department regarding repairs and account concerns.
  • Monitor and maintain library equipment and supplies, including copy machines, laminators, paper inventory, and other instructional resources available for staff use.
  • Learn and utilize district-approved literacy and assessment programs, including Accelerated Reader, Lexile systems, Destiny, and other educational technology platforms.
  • Proctor district, state, and classroom assessments in accordance with testing protocols and district procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records, student data, circulation statistics, inventory records, and other documentation as required.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail when completing assignments, entering data, maintaining records, and implementing procedures.
  • Learn, adapt to, and effectively implement new technologies, procedures, and district initiatives.
  • Work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and exercise sound judgment while managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, patience, professionalism, and composure when responding to changing priorities and challenging situations.
  • Build and maintain positive, respectful, and collaborative relationships with students, families, staff, administrators, and community members.
  • Demonstrate empathy, cultural responsiveness, and an awareness of the diverse academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students.
  • Support positive student behavior by implementing appropriate interventions and reinforcing school-wide expectations.
  • Supervise students within the library, classrooms, common areas, and other assigned locations to promote a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Perform assigned student supervision duties, including recess, arrival, dismissal, lunch, or other supervisory assignments as directed.
  • Enforce school and district policies, procedures, and student conduct expectations consistently and fairly.
  • Participate in collaborative problem-solving, shared decision-making, and school improvement efforts as appropriate.
