Elementary Music Teacher
The Elementary Music Teacher provides a comprehensive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate music education program for students in grades K–5. This position fosters creativity, musical literacy, performance skills, and an appreciation for music through vocal, instrumental, and movement-based instruction aligned to district curriculum, Washington State standards, and building learning goals. The Elementary Music Teacher creates a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students are encouraged to participate, collaborate, and develop confidence as learners and performers.
The position requires the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and physical needs of students while integrating research-based instructional practices and assessment strategies. The teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, specialists, administrators, families, and support staff to support the overall success and well-being of students and contributes positively to the school culture through participation in professional learning communities, school activities, performances, and site-based decision-making processes.
The Elementary Music Teacher may direct student performances and musical programs, support school and district events, and integrate technology and cross-curricular connections into instruction to enhance student engagement and achievement.
QualificationsMaster's degree preferred.
Instruction and Student Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned music instruction for elementary students in grades K–5.
- Teach music concepts and skills including rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, listening, performance, creativity, and music appreciation.
- Provide instruction in vocal and instrumental music experiences appropriate to developmental levels.
- Develop lesson plans and learning activities aligned to district curriculum, state standards, and identified learning targets.
- Utilize research-based instructional strategies and best practices in music education.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, emotional, behavioral, linguistic, and physical needs of all learners.
- Use questioning, modeling, guided practice, and performance opportunities to support higher-level thinking and student engagement.
- Integrate technology and digital resources into music instruction when appropriate.
- Provide meaningful opportunities for student collaboration, creativity, and performance.
- Conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
