Para educator Librarian – Garden Heights Elementary, Moses Lake, Washington

    Salary: $23.45 to $28.85 per P.S.E. contract
  • Full‑time, 6.50 hrs/day, 180 workdays/year
  • Shift time subject to building needs

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 72 college‑level credits, a college degree, or ability to pass the ETS Assessment
  • Experience working with pupils in individual and small‑group instructional settings
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills:
    Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), email, typing, library setup, shelving, and Follett Destiny inventory system
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and bend/stoop for shelving
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Elementary school experience preferred
Essential Job Functions
  • Meet performance expectations per the Para educator Evaluation process
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, literacy‑rich library environment
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate literacy enrichment activities that support student engagement, reading development, and information literacy
  • Provide instructional support to students individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings under staff direction
  • Read aloud, promote reading comprehension and vocabulary, and encourage independent reading habits
  • Assist students and staff with locating, selecting, and using print and digital library resources
  • Support research using library databases, the Destiny system, and approved resources
  • Manage circulation: check‑ins, check‑outs, renewals, holds, and record keeping
  • Catalog, shelve, organize, inventory, and maintain library materials
  • Inspect, repair, and process library materials as needed
  • Assist in evaluating, selecting, ordering, and processing new materials aligned with curriculum
  • Maintain a clean, organized, functional library environment
  • Provide technology support: troubleshoot Chromebook issues, distribute devices and chargers, submit service requests, coordinate with Technology Department
  • Monitor and maintain library equipment and supplies (copy machines, laminators, paper, etc.)
  • Learn and use district‑approved literacy and assessment programs (Accelerated Reader, Lexile, Destiny, other platforms)
  • Proctor district, state, and classroom assessments per protocols
  • Maintain accurate records: student data, circulation stats, inventory, etc.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, adapt to new technologies, procedures, and initiatives
  • Work independently, prioritize responsibilities, exercise judgment with minimal supervision
  • Exhibit flexibility, patience, professionalism, composure during changing priorities
  • Build and maintain respectful, collaborative relationships with students, families, staff, administrators, and community members
  • Show empathy, cultural responsiveness, awareness of diverse needs
  • Support positive student behavior with appropriate interventions
  • Supervise students in library, classrooms, common areas, and other assigned locations; handle recess, arrival, dismissal, lunch, etc.
  • Enforce school and district policies and conduct expectations
  • Participate in collaborative problem solving and school improvement efforts
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development; travel as assigned
  • Complete required district, state, and job‑related training promptly
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality; monitor communication systems and respond promptly
  • Protect confidentiality of student, staff, and district information per laws and policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by building administrator or designee
Employment Requirements
  • Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI
  • Within first year, complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators per RCW 28A.413.070 and meet future state requirements
