Salary & Benefits

Qualifications:

  • Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in English/Language Arts.
  • Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with parents, students, staff, and community.
  • Previous secondary level experience preferred.
  • Extracurricular participation encouraged.
  • Knowledge of research-based best instructional practices for improved student achievement.
  • Have experience working with Google applications such as Google Drive, Google Documents, Google Calendar and Google Classroom preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of Turnitin preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative nature with colleagues.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively manage high school level students.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a building team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Ability to assume a leadership role in curriculum development.
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Must have excellent attendance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach English courses at the high school level by teaching content and skills in English language, literature, composition, speech, and reading to high school students using the district adopted curriculum.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience in various forms of assessment including student self-assessment, formative assessment, and anecdotal records.
  • Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development opportunities provided by the district and/or outside of the district.
  • Help maintain a school environment conducive to learning.
  • Be a contributing member of a Professional Learning Community within the English department with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.
