Trio Student Support Services Stem Academic Advisor
Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, 10-month position as a TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) STEM Academic Advisor. BBCC's TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program is a federally funded initiative by the U.S. Department of Education designed to help Big Bend first-generation, low-income, and disabled students succeed in college. Through a high-touch, proactive approach, the program provides students with the support they need to thrive.
This includes holistic, comprehensive academic advising, academic tutoring, financial literacy workshops, financial aid information and assistance, and college campus visits. The TRIO Student Support Services Academic Advisor provides academic, career, and transfer assistance to TRIO students, supporting their academic journey and the overall program. This position reports to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services and works closely with the Advising & Retention department to advance the college's academic advising mission, Tutoring Services, Counseling, Financial Aid, Admissions/Registration, Workforce Education Services, and Accommodations and Accessibility Services to provide services to all eligible participants.
This is a full-time, 10-month, grant-funded position. This position is dependent upon continued grant funding.

EssentialJob Duties
Essential job duties include but may not be limited to the following:
- Assist with recruitment, selection, and orientation of new Student Support Services STEM participants
- Maintain a caseload of program participants by assessing individual needs and providing services, resources, and activities that promote academic success.
- Provide individualized advising on academic, personal, career, financial aid, economic literacy, transfer, and educational planning to help students achieve their educational and career goals.
- Develop and support student educational plans, helping students navigate academic pathways and make informed decisions about their future.
- Assist students with completing scholarship applications, financial aid forms, college admissions applications, and university transfer processes.
- Provide information and referrals to appropriate college programs, departments, community resources, and program-sponsored online tutoring services.
- Conduct follow-up with students identified through early alert systems and implement intervention strategies to address barriers to success.
- Lead workshops for students in various topics such as study skills instruction, financial planning, STEM careers, and STEM-transfer advising.
- Coordinate and supervise four-year college campus visits (focused on STEM-transferring), academic, and cultural activities.
- Proactively engage students through personalized outreach, messaging campaigns, and other communication strategies that support persistence, retention, and student success in alignment with grant requirements and BBCC goals.
- Identify and apply research-based advising practices that enhance student learning, development, and achievement.
- Foster an inclusive, equitable, and student-centered advising environment that supports the diverse needs of the student population.

- Contribute to BBCC's mission, strategic enrollment goals, and commitment to student success and equity by participating in student recruitment, outreach efforts, New Student Enrollment activities, and college-wide initiatives that support traditionally underrepresented student populations.
