Para educator Specialist - Special Education Resource Room (3 Positions) @ Moses Lake High School
Moses Lake School District 161 – Moses Lake High School – Moses Lake, Washington
Shift time is subject to building needs.
Specialized Duties- ELL/Migrant Instruction and Translation Services*

- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or pass ETS test.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Accurate and efficient at completing tasks on time without constant/direct supervision.
- Positive relational skills with students, parents, staff, and supervisors.
- Ability to work effectively with small groups or individual students under the supervision of certified staff.
- Accurate record‑keeping.
- Compassionate response to a student needing assistance with personal care, including verbal coaching.
Job Responsibilities
- Meet performance expectations as outlined in MLSD #161 Classified Employee Performance Evaluation.
- Always punctual and notify supervisor early of absences to avoid workflow interruption.
- Maintain a well‑groomed, neat, and clean appearance appropriate for the job assignment.
- Lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Promptly and accurately follow specific instructions, performing duties with a positive attitude.
- Follow assigned duty schedule and prescribed behavior plans.
- Apply appropriate discipline according to district procedures and behavior plans.
- Work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
- Communicate learning objectives from individualized educational programs (IEP) under the supervision of certified staff to special‑needs children individually or in small groups.
- Build positive relationships with special‑needs students and encourage them to develop relationships with peers.
- Receive Non‑violent Crisis Intervention and Non‑violent Restraint training.
- Effectively intervene and control students when they are out of control (e.g., fighting, acting out, having tantrums) using restraining methods approved by the district.
- Receive training to understand specific disabilities.
- Supervise special‑needs students in the classroom and upon arrival and departure from school.
- Monitor activities to ensure safety and compliance with school rules.
- Provide emergency first aid as necessary and hold a current First Aid card.
- Assist medically fragile children and work with students with behaviour difficulties.
- Maintain excellent attendance and keep district‑assigned email active (daily read and responses).
- Other duties as assigned.
Classified salary range: $21.69 to $26.67 per hour. 6.5 hours per day, 180 days per year.
