Big Bend Community College invites applications for a Program Assistant in the college's Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) Department. Under general supervision, this position provides case management services to BEdA students, develops educational plans, monitors student progress, and supports successful transitions to postsecondary education, employment, military service, or other career pathways. The position works collaboratively with campus departments and community partners to provide wraparound support, remove barriers to success, and connect students to available resources.
This position reports to the BEdA Director and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community partners to help students achieve their educational goals. Success in this role requires a student-centered approach, strong organizational skills, flexibility, and adaptability as program requirements and student needs evolve throughout the year.
This position typically works Monday through Friday during regular business hours; however, occasional evening work, travel, and off-site responsibilities may be required. Services are delivered in person, by phone, email, and virtual platforms.

Job Duties
- Respond to students, employees, partner agencies, and members of the public by providing information regarding Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) programs, services, and resources.
- Manage a caseload of BEdA students and maintain accurate, timely documentation of participation, progress, and services provided within student information and case management systems.
- Maintain regular communication with students through in-person meetings, classroom visits, phone calls, virtual meetings, email, Canvas, LACES, Starfish, and other communication platforms.
- Use a holistic, student-centered approach to identify and address academic, personal, and program-related barriers to success and make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources.
- Maintain confidential student records, including educational plans, schedules, transcripts, enrollment information, and progress documentation, in accordance with applicable regulations and policies.
- Monitor and track student progress toward educational goals, milestones, certificates, credentials, and degree completion.
- Conduct orientation sessions for new students and provide information regarding program requirements, expectations, available services, and student success strategies.
- Assist students in identifying educational and career goals and developing individualized educational plans to support goal attainment.
- Refer students to appropriate college programs, services, and community resources, including Workforce Education Services (WES), TRiO, Pathway Advisors, Outreach Services, and other support programs.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, public agencies, community organizations, employers, and private-sector partners to support student retention, persistence, and access to resources.
- Represent the BEdA Department at outreach, recruitment, enrollment, retention, and community engagement events to promote programs and services.
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with college safety requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with applicable college, state, and federal regulations.
- Demonstrate professionalism and contribute to a collaborative, student-focused environment.
