PARA EDUCATOR SPECIALIST (Lab)

6.50 hrs per day/180 days per year

Shift time is subject to building needs.

Para educator Specialist
- Lab

Coordinates activities or performs specialized duties to assist in providing instruction to and supervision of students in a variety of instructional and non-instructional programs.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Assessment. Complete thisFORM if you'd like to be scheduled for the assessment.

  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or pass ETS test required.
  • Ability to work withhigh school students in a tutoring situation.
  • Ability to use correct grammar, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates strong English skills and competence in math.
  • Strong organizational skills and computer knowledge required.
  • Ability to accurately keep records, and administer tests.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to relate in a positive and proactive manner with supervisory staff, classroom teachers, parents, and students.
  • Ability to converse in Spanish and English or Russian and English preferred.
  • Willingness to participate in diversity training.
  • Experience and/or training working with students with a wide range of abilities preferred.
  • Experience with computer-based learning programs preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find acceptable.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment and procedures.
  • Assist in instructing basic course skills in a one-on-one or small group setting.
  • Assist in providing instruction to and supervision of students in a variety of instructional and non-instructional programs.
  • Perform routine clerical, inventory, and office tasks in support of teachers and district staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with small groups or individual students and take directions from certificated staff.
  • Ability to apply appropriate discipline according to building & district policy.
  • Must be able to work independently and solve problems with a minimum of supervision.
  • Must be able to follow directions and be resourceful and/or creative.
  • Ability to help students with computer-assisted instruction preferred.
  • Experience working with ELL students.
  • Ability to work independently with middle to high school students.
  • Must have excellent attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  • Within the first year of employment, successfully complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators provided by the District, as defined in RCW 28A.413.070, and continue to meet future requirements as mandated by the State.
