Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington, invites applications for a full-time Aviation Support Specialist. Reporting to the Dean of Workforce Education, this position provides instructional, operational, and student support for the Aviation program, working closely with faculty, staff, and students to support flight and ground school instruction, student success, flight line operations, recruitment activities, and overall program effectiveness.

Our program has been training aviation professionals since 1965 and has an excellent reputation for training career pilots to the highest skill standards.

PRIMARY

JOB DUTIES:

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide lecture and instruction for flight and ground schools.
  • Evaluate and update curriculum as required by industry standards.
  • Participate in outreach and recruitment events.
  • Assist with student advising.
  • Assist with flight line activities, including recordkeeping and dispatch.
  • Responsible for care of equipment, supplies, aircraft, and facilities used for training.
  • Serve as the Aviation Club Advisor.
  • Provide tours for visitors, newly enrolled students, and prospective students.
  • Support development of program course schedule
  • Participate and support program assessment.
  • Support and evaluate students.
  • Facilitate student, course, and program orientations.
  • Support and facilitate instructor roles.
OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Develop professional development plan and maintain vocational certification.
  • Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to security and safety, understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), equipment, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in aviation from a Part 141 flight school.
  • Must possess the following:
  • Commercial pilot certificate, airplane single-engine land (ASEL) with instrument rate – airplane.
  • Current flight instructor certificate – airplane, single-engine.
  • Current medical certificate with no restrictions that would prohibit performance of flight duties and non-flight duties as assigned by BBCC.
  • Commercial ASEL including instrument rating.
  • At least 1250 total flight hours experience.
