Who You Are

The Temporary EHS&S Engineer (Environmental Focus) will be a key member of the Sila team, responsible for developing, implementing, and managing environmental programs to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and foster a strong environmental stewardship culture at our Moses Lake, WA and Alameda, CA sites.

This engagement is expected to be a 9-12 month contract.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Manage air permitting activities with assistance by consultants, including communications, applications, modifications,compliance and audits for the Department of Ecology (Washington) and Bay Area Air District (California).
  • Manage industrial wastewater compliance for Department of Ecology (Washington) and East Bay Municipal Utility District (California).
  • Manage stormwater compliance for Department of Ecology (Washington) and State Water Resources Control Board (California).
  • Manage hazardous waste programs, including vendor support, waste characterization, storage, disposal, auditing, and record-keeping.
  • Reporting: prepare annual CERS submission, prepare waste reports, collect air permit required data and information for annual submission to BAAQMD & Department of Ecology.
  • Ensure compliance for existing and new operations with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Conduct environmental audits and inspections to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate environmental source testing and submit report to agency in a timely manner
  • Review and summarize source testing results for Sila leadership.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training to employees.
  • Assist with environmental incident reporting and investigation, contributing to root cause analysis and preventative measures.
  • Communicate environmental performance metrics and regulatory updates effectively with site management.
  • Collaborate with EHS&S staff to develop and implement environmental programs and initiatives.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • BS Degree in an EHS field or at least 8-10 years relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience overseeing air permitting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of staff and management.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to environmental management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in documenting findings and maintaining accurate records.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations in Washington State and the Bay Area (California), including air permitting (BAAD, Ecology), industrial wastewater, stormwater and hazardous waste management.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Ability to walk moderate distances and be stationary for extended periods in various field environments.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment for environmental assessments and testing.
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs and ladders.
  • Travel to Alameda, CA
The starting base pay for this role is between $65/hr and $85/hr at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila's competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, and equity. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

This role may also be eligible for overtime. #LI-Onsite
