Assistant Stylist – Overview & Scope
The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults on hair care needs, and recommends products and services. This temporary position prepares talent for a full stylist role, focusing on delivering quality professional services that enhance the guest’s overall look.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities Performance
- Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
- Support the mentor Stylist in meeting sales and productivity goals for hair services and haircare products through add‑on recommendations, shampoo/treatment processes, blowouts and styling, color applications, foils, cleaning/sanitation, pre‑booking, and retail recommendations.
- After month three, perform hair services including hair design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable.
- Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
- Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
- Stay informed about industry trends and products to better serve guests.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
- Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate recommendations.
- Serve all guests, including walk‑in guests, in a timely manner under mentorship.
- Partner with skin therapists and retail staff to provide a total‑store experience.
- Build professional peer and brand partner relationships that foster collaboration.
- Share benefits of the guest loyalty program, Ulta Beauty app, and credit program.
- Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services; comply with state board guidelines.
- Follow established service protocols for a consistent guest experience.
- Use booking systems to schedule return services and events.
- Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
- Maintain store operational standards, including cleanliness of salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
- Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for professional development.
- Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
- Protect company assets and provide guest service.
- Execute additional operational tasks as directed.
- Cosmetology license.
- Basic understanding of salon techniques for haircutting, color, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, brow, and ear piercing services, or an aptitude to develop these skills.
- Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals needed to perform technical work.
- Basic ability to recommend and sell pro hair care and makeup products.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
Position Requirements
- Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Frequent mobility during shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting.
- Continuous lifting or moving up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Continuous coordination and manipulation tasks.
- Frequent use of computer, telephonic devices, and related supplies.
The pay range for this position is $17.13 – $13.00 per hour. Compensation will be based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, shift, location, and business needs. Eligible associates may earn overtime pay and tips from service guests. Full‑time positions receive paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
