As a Registered Nurse, you are responsible for a group of patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process.
You work closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes. Samaritan Healthcare is designated as a Trauma Level III by the Washington State Department of Health (WSDH). This position reports to the Charge Nurse, Department Director, and other designated supervisory staff on duty.
This is a per diem position with variable hours and shifts per week.
SPECIFICACCOUNTABILITIES
- Performs assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
- Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner per procedures, policies and care plans.
- Identifies patient/significant other learning needs, readiness for learning, and implements patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans.
- Documents in patient charts via electronic medical records and/or paper processes per policy and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights and provides care regardless of race, age, religion, color, creed, sex, national origin, or ability to pay.
- Delegates patient care activities appropriately and supervises assigned coworkers as needed.
- Maintains organization and priority setting with sound critical thinking.
- Uses lines of authority appropriately.
- May function as a Charge Nurse including delegation of assignment, assisting with admits/discharges/transfers, coordinating staff coverage for breaks, and leading the unit.
- Maintains professional growth through education and affiliations to stay current in the field.
- Operates with awareness of safety requirements including infection control, MSDS, equipment, fire, disaster planning, and safe patient handling.
- Complies with organization policies, procedures, and labor agreements.
- Communicates courteously with team members and other groups in alignment with the organization’s values.
- Maintains professional appearance and behavior to meet job standards and represent the organization.
- Assumes additional accountabilities as required by management to meet organizational standards.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Washington State RN licensure.
- Experience as an acute care registered nurse preferred; minimum one year of RN experience preferred for specialty nursing departments.
- Ability to perform the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for all assigned patients.
- HCP level of BLS within 30 days of hire – AHA or equivalent.

- Obtain all applicable certifications for the nursing units trained.
- AWHONN’s Advanced Fetal Monitoring course is only required if labor-trained and caring for pregnant patients.
- NRP is only required if labor-trained and caring for pregnant patients.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
- Manual dexterity with ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs; ability to ambulate 8 to 12 hours per shift and manage multiple pieces of equipment.
- Strength to perform CPR and to lift/push/pull 60 to 300 pounds with assistance as often as 20 times per shift.
- Good mental acuity for assessment and decision making with acutely ill patients.
- Good distant and peripheral vision to read and observe patient data and operate documentation tools.
- Emotional stability to handle high stress and emotional demands of caring for patients and families.
