Environmental Operator

The Environmental Operator safely processes wastewater and manages hazardous materials while supporting production operations. This role involves operating and monitoring environmental equipment, performing basic mechanical repairs and maintenance, documenting treatment activities, and responding to spills to ensure compliance with internal procedures and environmental standards.

Responsibilities
  • Process wastewater on a daily basis in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Assist environmental leadership and production engineering personnel in troubleshooting equipment and process issues.
  • Monitor environmental and production-related equipment and complete all corresponding paperwork on a daily basis.
  • Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of environmental equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Repair machinery as necessary, within the scope of training and safety standards.
  • Collect and prepare samples as needed to support environmental monitoring and reporting.
  • Perform basic maintenance of storage tanks, including inspection, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Respond to spills promptly and effectively, following established spill response procedures.
  • Handle hazardous chemical transfers safely and accurately, using appropriate tools and protective equipment.
  • Clean hazardous chemical containers in accordance with safety and environmental protocols.
  • Perform minor repairs on hazardous chemical piping as required and within safety guidelines.
  • Record information related to treatment activities in the generator log and other required documentation systems.
  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment once certified, to move materials and equipment safely.
  • Support general production, machine operation, assembly, and warehouse tasks as needed.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and operational procedures and participate in required training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support environmental and production operations.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to safely process wastewater and follow environmental and safety procedures.
  • Capability to assist with troubleshooting equipment and process issues alongside environmental and engineering personnel.
  • Experience or aptitude in general production, machine operation, assembly, and warehouse work.
  • Ability to operate forklifts once certified and to handle materials safely in a production environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and mechanical ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance on machinery and equipment.
  • Good math skills to perform measurements, calculations, and record-keeping accurately.
  • Ability to read and write the English language to understand procedures, complete documentation, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate monitoring, record-keeping, and safe handling of hazardous materials.
  • Basic computer experience to enter data, complete forms, and access procedures or training materials.
  • Willingness and ability to complete in-house Hazardous Communication training and annual refreshers.
  • Willingness and ability to complete respirator training and use respiratory protection as required.
  • Ability to follow spill response procedures and handle hazardous chemical transfers safely.
  • Capability to perform basic maintenance on storage tanks, hazardous chemical piping, and related equipment.

  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain forklift certification through employer-provided training.

This role is based in a production and warehouse environment that includes wastewater treatment systems, storage tanks, hazardous chemical handling areas, and general manufacturing equipment. You work a schedule of four 10-hour days from Friday through Monday, starting at 7:45 AM. The position involves operating machinery, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment, as well as performing general labor, assembly, and machine operation tasks.
