Position: MAINTENANCE - Trades (Carpenter) @ Maintenance Department

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our team as a School District Carpenter. The carpenter will play a crucial role in maintaining, repairing, and constructing building components to ensure safe, functional, and well‑maintained facilities for students, staff, and visitors. This position involves performing a variety of carpentry and general maintenance duties to support the overall operation and appearance of school district properties.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Must be able to communicate with district staff and public building users orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work effectively with staff and students.
  • Must be able to work and communicate with the public and community groups using district facilities.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job functions and meet all physical requirements.
  • Must be willing to learn and apply new construction methods, materials, and techniques to improve efficiency and quality of work.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and work orders.
  • Must be able to read and understand hazardous material warning labels.
  • Must be skilled in the use of carpentry tools and equipment or able to learn their proper use.
  • Must be flexible in assignments and scheduling to accommodate facility needs and school events.
  • Must have a proven record of punctuality and consistent attendance.
  • Prior carpentry or construction experience required.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Essential Job Functions
  • Perform carpentry work as assigned, including construction, installation, and repair of walls, doors, windows, flooring, cabinetry, furniture, and other building components.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials to complete projects according to specifications and district standards.
  • Complete projects with appropriate finishes and final detailing to ensure a functional and professional result.
  • Perform general building repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Assist with setup, modification, and repair of classrooms, offices, shops, gymnasiums, and other district facilities.
  • Respond to work orders and maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform repetitive tasks such as measuring, cutting, fastening, assembling, and installing materials.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, safe, and organized during and after project completion.
  • Assist with snow removal and site safety as required.
  • Ensure building security when working on facilities.
  • Work independently with a high degree of efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Participate in site decision‑making processes as needed.
  • Accept responsibility for assignments and outcomes.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff; maintain positive and respectful working relationships.
  • Maintain punctuality and regular attendance.
  • Maintain district‑assigned email account; read and respond to messages regularly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions /

Physical Requirements
  • Be able to lift, carry, and place a 60‑pound object on a surface four feet off the ground.
  • Be able to work on your feet for extended periods, including walking, climbing stairs, and working on ladders or scaffolding.
  • General conditions include pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Be able to work in confined or awkward spaces such as under fixtures, in crawl spaces, or around building structures.
  • Must be able to work in varying environments including indoors, outdoors, attics, basements, and in changing weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work at different elevations to perform carpentry and maintenance tasks.
  • Must be able to safely operate tools and equipment required for carpentry work.
  • Must be able to perform outdoor duties such as snow removal and site support when required.
Position Details

Position Type: Full‑Time
Salary: $34.04 to $38.45 per hour (Salary

Schedule:

Per P.S.E. Contract Schedule)
Starting Date: Immediately
Shift Time: 1:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. approx.
Hours per year: 8 hours/day, 260 days/year
