Bus Driver/Custodian - Moses Lake

Position Purpose Bus Driver Custodian is responsible for ensuring the children are transported in safe, timely and appropriate manner. The Bus Driver is responsible for the supervision of children on the bus along with the support of the Floater/Bus position. Keep building in clean and orderly condition performing routine maintenance activities, notifying supervisors of needed repairs. Keep premises neatly groomed and safe by cleaning snow and debris from sidewalks, etc.

Distinguishing Characteristics Inspire Development Centers provide early Childhood Education (ECE) and social services to 3,110 children in center-based and home-based setting, at more than 25 Child Development Centers (CDC) throughout the State of Washington. At these sites, Inspire employs over 1,000 staff on a $52 million annual budget. Inspire provides these services under various federal and state funded programs with differing regulations and stipulations, which must be coordinated and adhered to, including, but not limited to:
Regional Head Start (RHS), Migrant Seasonal Head Start (MSHS), Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP), and Early Head Start (EHS). The organization is required to meet an annual quota of non-federal share (in-kind) funds. A large majority of children's first language is Spanish. Over the past 40 years, Inspire has strategically and incrementally increased its capacity to address the rapidly changing needs of its families and communities.

Supervisory and Other Relationships Bus Driver Custodian reports to the Center Manager, and works closely with Transportation Staff, Center Staff, Parents, and Children.

Examples of Essential Duties and Accountabilities

The following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistently with the general scope of the position.

The Bus Driver is the final authority and responsible for the health, safety and wellbeing of all bus occupants while in route. Establishes and maintains bus route in coordination with Family Service Worker for review and approval of Center Manager. Runs fixed routes as written; does not makes unauthorized changes to routes or stops. Limit cell phone usage for emergency purposes and other agencies prescribed protocol.

Responsible for ensuring general maintenance of buses and ensure a clean and hygienic environment keep the bus in working order. Responsible to maintain and complete attendance log, mileage bus log and maintenance log daily. Provides training to Bus Monitor(s) throughout the year as needed.

Responsible for providing in-service training to staff, parents and conduct Emergency Bus Evacuation. Participate in local center meetings to provide orientation on bus safety/protocols to include safety drills and evacuation plans.

Responsible to provide/receive written/oral information between center staff and parent participants. Immediately reports incidents, accidents, or unusual situations (i.e. child abuse reports, etc.) that could or did place a child at risk of injury and willing and able to describe such incidents in writing.

Conducts a pre-trip inspection of the vehicle driven every day and report suspected mechanical problems duct a thorough post-trip inspection for children or other items left on board at the conclusion of each trip.

Responsible to sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, clean, and disinfect classrooms sinks, restrooms, and common areas. Responsible for disposal of all garbage and disinfect wastebaskets or garbage cans daily. Keep outside equipment clean and in good/safe working conditions, (i.e. lawn mowers, shop vacuums, extractor, etc.). Strip, wax, and polish floors and shampoo carpets according to center schedule.

Responsible to keep sidewalks, parking lot, and playground areas safe from hazards. Responsible that all doors and windows are securely locked before closing center. Discuss unique concerns of facility and immediately reports any unsafe equipment to Safety Committee Chairperson and/or Center Manager.
