Overview
TITLE: ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
DEPARTMENT/SITE: Administration / Central Office
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
Qualifications- Master's degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
- Valid Mississippi administrator license (or eligibility to obtain).
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in educational leadership (e.g., principal, district administrator).
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal programs, secondary instruction, and state accountability systems.
The Assistant Superintendent provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure high-quality instructional programming, regulatory compliance, and student success across the district. This role supervises key academic and federal programs, supports secondary education initiatives, and serves as a critical liaison with state agencies and postsecondary partners. The Assistant Superintendent works collaboratively with district leaders to advance academic excellence, equity, and continuous improvement aligned with district goals and state accountability requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Assistant Superintendent shall perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
Academic Leadership & Program Oversight- Provide leadership and supervision for academic programs, ensuring alignment with Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards and district instructional priorities.
- Oversee alternative learning programs and dropout prevention initiatives, ensuring compliance with state guidelines and effective support for at-risk students.
- Direct and support the district's virtual learning programs, including curriculum alignment, instructional quality, and student performance monitoring.
- Supervise enrollment petitions and related processes in accordance with Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) regulations and district policy.
- Serve as Director of Federal Programs, overseeing planning, implementation, compliance, and evaluation of all federal funding programs (e.g., Title I, Title II, Title III, Title IV).
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations related to program implementation, fiscal accountability, and reporting.
- Collaborate with principals and department leaders to support effective use of federal funds to improve student outcomes.
Lead and coordinate the district's National Board Certification Teaching Program, including recruitment, support, mentoring, and program evaluation.
Promote high-quality professional learning opportunities aligned to district instructional goals and teacher leadership development.
Partnerships & External Relations- Serve as the district liaison between the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC).
- Coordinate dual enrollment, articulation, and collaborative academic initiatives that support student readiness and postsecondary success.
- Communicate regularly with state and regional partners to ensure compliance, collaboration, and alignment with educational initiatives.
- Assist the Superintendent in district-wide planning, policy development, and implementation of strategic initiatives.
- Support principals and district administrators through coaching, guidance, and performance monitoring.
- Analyze academic data to inform decision-making, program improvement, and accountability efforts.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, and state agencies as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent to support the effective operation of the school district.
Terms of Employment240 days. Compensation for this position will be based on experience and in accordance with the Moss Point School District's policies, procedures, and established pay scale.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of school district personnel.
