Engineer I – Power Systems Design

We are seeking a motivated Engineer I to support engineering design, construction, and maintenance activities within a utility and power environment.

This role is ideal for early-career engineers who are interested in power systems, utility infrastructure, and engineering design. The Engineer I will support design development, construction package preparation, CAD updates, material estimating, and coordination with internal teams and contractors.

The ideal candidate will possess foundational engineering knowledge, CAD experience, strong problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to learn utility engineering processes and standards.

• Apply engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to support power-related system design and construction.
• Assist in developing:
  Design solutions, Construction packages, Engineering specifications, Material estimates
• Support preparation of project estimates and engineering documentation.

• Perform walkdowns and field verification activities.
• Mark up and update:
  Mechanical drawings, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Engineering documentation
• Utilize CAD software to revise and maintain design drawings.

• Support construction and maintenance teams during project execution and daily operations.
• Assist with transmitting construction packages and supporting specifications.
• Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and plant personnel to ensure project accuracy and compliance.

• Provide oversight and quality reviews for contractor-developed design solutions and construction packages.
• Support adherence to:
  Utility engineering standards, Safety requirements, Design procedures, Southern Company engineering standards

• Promote a safe work environment by prioritizing safety in all activities.
• Gain understanding of:
  Planning processes, Design practices, Construction operations, Maintenance activities
• Collaborate with cross-functional internal departments supporting utility operations.

• Bachelor's Degree in:
  Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Related Engineering discipline
• Degree must be from an accredited institution.

• 0–5 years of related engineering experience.
• Minimum 2 years of CAD experience required.
• Experience walking down, marking up, and updating:
  Mechanical drawings, P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)

• Familiarity with:
  Engineering design software, CAD applications, Construction drawings, Utility or industrial systems
• Basic understanding of engineering principles and design processes.
