Geologist

Our client, an established entity in the exploration and extraction of geological resources, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Geologist to join their team based in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, ZA . This is a site-based position focused on geological mapping, sampling, and resource assessment. You will be involved in field operations, data collection, and preliminary analysis to support exploration and development initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or possesses early-career experience in geology, eager to gain hands‑on experience in a practical setting. A strong field presence, meticulous data recording, and a solid understanding of geological principles are essential for success in this role. You will work under the guidance of senior geologists, contributing to the understanding and evaluation of geological formations.

• Conduct geological mapping of exploration areas, identifying rock types, structures, and mineral occurrences.
• Collect rock, soil, and core samples for laboratory analysis.
• Log exploration drill core, accurately describing lithology, alteration, and mineralization.
• Assist in the planning and supervision of field exploration activities.
• Maintain detailed and accurate field notes, sample registers, and database entries.
• Perform preliminary geological interpretations and contribute to geological model development.
• Operate and maintain geological field equipment.
• Ensure all field activities are conducted in accordance with safety protocols and environmental guidelines.
• Prepare basic geological reports and summaries of field findings.
• Assist senior geologists with data compilation and visualization.

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• 0-3 years of experience in geological fieldwork and exploration.
• Strong understanding of geological principles, including stratigraphy, structural geology, and mineralogy.
• Excellent field observation and data collection skills.
• Proficiency with geological mapping tools and basic GIS software is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in challenging field conditions and remote locations.
• Good physical condition and stamina for extensive fieldwork.
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Team player with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
• Valid driver's license.
