Position: Genealogy Research Specialist (Part-Time)

About the Position

The Moultrie-Colquitt County Library System is seeking a friendly, positive, and customer-service-oriented professional to join our team as a Genealogy Research Specialist. This role is vital to the Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library, providing specialized research assistance and helping maintain our significant local history collection.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour.
  • Benefits:
    Paid vacation, sick leave, and 16 paid library holidays annually. This position is also eligible for the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) and Flexible Benefits including vision, dental, and life insurance.
Schedule

The weekly 28-hour schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday – Thursday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (1-hour unpaid lunch)
  • Friday: 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Essential

Job Duties

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting patrons with complex family history research and genealogical databases.
  • Maintaining, arranging, and preserving items within the local history and library collections.
  • Performing circulation duties, including checking materials in and out.
  • Promoting a positive image of the library through professional interaction with the community.
Requirements
  • Fluent reading ability of historic (1750s-1950s) English cursive handwriting styles.
  • Proficiency with computers, internet research, and office technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
