Job Description:

The Audio and Visual Technology & Film Teacher provides high-quality instruction in the Arts, Audio-Video Technology & Communications Career Cluster in alignment with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). This position prepares students for postsecondary education and careers in audio, video, film, and digital media through hands-on, project-based learning experiences. The instructor develops students' technical and creative skills using industry-standard tools, technologies, and practices, while promoting collaboration, communication, and professionalism.

The instructor also serves as the SkillsUSA Advisor, fostering active student engagement, leadership development, and competition within the Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) component of the program.

Professional Responsibilities:

• Maintain regular and reliable attendance to ensure consistent instruction and program success.
• Teach courses within the Arts, Audio-Video Technology & Communications career cluster, including:

• 10.51910 Audio-Video Technology and Film II
• 10.52010 Audio-Visual Technology and Film III
• Deliver standards-based instruction aligned with Georgia CTAE Standards of Excellence, integrating academic concepts and employability skills.
• Design engaging, innovative lesson plans that emphasize hands-on learning, technology integration, and real-world applications.
• Assess and evaluate student performance using formative and summative methods consistent with the Teacher Keys Effectiveness System (TKES) and/or GaLEADS.
• Provide authentic learning experiences in video production, editing, broadcasting, sound engineering, lighting, set design, and digital storytelling.
• Incorporate real-world, project-based learning aligned with industry standards and workplace expectations.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and creative classroom and studio environment consistent with professional practices.
• Develop and sustain partnerships with local media outlets, businesses, and postsecondary institutions to support internships and work-based learning opportunities.
• Manage and maintain AV equipment, recording studios, editing suites, and production materials.
• Supervise student film, broadcast, and multimedia projects, including live events and school news productions.
• Stay current with trends, standards, and certifications in the audiovisual and film industries.

SkillsUSA Responsibilities:

• Serve as the SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor for Colquitt County High School.
• Recruit, train, and mentor students for SkillsUSA competitions, conferences, and leadership activities.
• Facilitate career readiness and leadership development through CTSO participation.
• Ensure compliance with SkillsUSA requirements and maintain accurate records of participation and achievements.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate student records, grades, and inventories per school procedures and district policy.
• Collaborate with colleagues across CTAE, Fine Arts, and core academic departments to enhance interdisciplinary learning.
• Participate in ongoing professional learning to refine instructional practices and remain current with industry advancements.
• Manage classroom resources effectively to support a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
• This role requires maintaining a calm and composed professional demeanor while ensuring the well-being of all students. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, CTAE Director, or Department Head.

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum Bachelor's Degree
• Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, with appropriate CTAE endorsement in Audio and Visual Technology & Film (or ability to obtain).
• Demonstrated knowledge of audiovisual production principles and their practical applications.
• Strong technical proficiency in video editing, sound design, lighting, and media production software.
• Ability to motivate students and manage a dynamic, hands-on learning environment.
• Commitment to integrating career readiness and employability skills through CTSO involvement.
• Must actively serve as the SkillsUSA Advisor, supporting student leadership and participation.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Dedication to professional growth and continuous learning.

Preferred:

• Prior teaching experience in a high school or technical setting.
• Proficiency with educational technology and media production tools.
• Experience developing and leading student projects, events, or competitions related to Audio and Visual Technology & Film.

Physical Demands:

• May involve moderate physical activity, including lifting (20-50 lbs.)
• Must be able to effectively supervise and ensure the safety of students while maintaining composure during emergency situations.
