Summary: The Evening Shift Pharmacist is a vital member of our healthcare team responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of medications for patients during nighttime/evening shift hours. This position requires a deep understanding of pharmaceuticals, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to patient safety. The Evening Shift Hospital Staff Pharmacist plays a crucial role in providing quality pharmaceutical care to patients, supporting healthcare providers, and maintaining regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Medication Dispensing- Accurately and safely prepare and dispense medications in accordance with physician orders.
- Verify the correct medication, dosage, and administration route before dispensing.
- Perform sterile compounding as required for intravenous medications and total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
- Provide medication counseling to patients, addressing their questions and concerns.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure appropriate medication therapy and make recommendations when necessary.
- Review medication orders for accuracy, potential drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications.
- Monitor and assess patients' medication regimens to optimize therapeutic outcomes while minimizing risks.
- Maintain proper storage and handling of medications and pharmaceutical supplies.
- Assist in inventory management, including medication ordering, receiving, and restocking.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance of automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and hospital pharmacy regulations and policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and medication safety programs.
- Be prepared to respond to medication-related emergencies and provide support during code situations.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of emergency medications.
- Maintain accurate records of medication dispensing and patient interactions.
- Generate required reports and documentation for regulatory purposes.
- Stay updated on new medications, treatment protocols, and pharmacy practices through continuing education.
- Provide training and mentorship to pharmacy technicians and interns.
Previous hospital pharmacy experience (preferred)
