Deli associates are responsible for preparing and serving food items, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and providing excellent customer service to all patrons.
Responsibilities- Provide continuous attention to customer needs; greet, assist, and thank customers in a prompt, courteous, and friendly manner.
- Offer product suggestions when appropriate.
- Stock and rotate department products to ensure freshness and date control; restock and use supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and maintain the lowest supply cost.
- Operate department equipment and tools in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notifying store management.
- Notify management of team member theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, property defacement, or any action that is illegal and/or against company policy.
- Prepare and serve food items such as hot meals, sandwiches, salads, soups, etc.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including cleaning equipment and utensils.
- Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
- Understand the company’s checkout/purchasing procedures to include how customers and staff pay for items in the store.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines by maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
- Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to include stocking, cleaning, etc.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Customer service experience.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
- Excellent Customer Service Attitude and Skills.
- Prior experience in a deli or food service environment preferred.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends.
