Sr. Principal R&D Implant Procedure Engineer

Position Overview

The Sr Principal Implant Procedure Engineer will lead the development of novel implant procedures associated with new products and therapies, helping achieve technological advancement and clinical acceptance. This role is part of the development and/or core teams, responsible for implementing strategic goals and advancing implant procedures from concept to market release.

• Direct the direction and strategy of all phases of new implant procedure development from market definition to market release, determining appropriate skill transfer and simulation model development.
• Define procedure‑related skills necessary for implant success by collaborating with implanting physicians, consultants, and users to uncover critical product design requirements.
• Influence product design through voice‑of‑customer and lab sessions.
• Interact with Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, Marketing, Education, Field employees, Customers, and Suppliers to ensure procedure readiness and regulatory submission support for market release.
• Assist in procedural knowledge transfer of implant procedures to geographic audiences including Customers, Field Teams, Marketing, and Education organizations.
• Support implant procedure training programs and clinical implant procedures during clinical research to market launch.
• Depending on project needs: design, develop, analyze, troubleshoot, and provide technical skills during research/product development; lead or review technical team work to execute the technical plan; understand anatomy, disease states, clinical use cases, and user interface requirements to drive product definition.
• Translate customer needs into device/therapy concepts, assess device performance via structured experimental plans, and recommend design changes based on customer or clinical evidence.
• Participate in verification and validation of designs and processes.

• Baccalaureate degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or master’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or PhD with 6 years of relevant experience. For degrees earned outside the U.S., the degree must satisfy 8 C.F.R. §214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A).
• Advanced degree in engineering, science, or equivalent field (Nice to Have).
• Previous commercial field clinical experience is highly desired (Nice to Have).
• Demonstrated skills in developing and training others in new medical device implant methods, ideally for implantable cardiac medical devices.
• Demonstrated understanding of clinical environment and implant procedures.
• Experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably implantable medical devices.
• Knowledge of product development cycles including clinical and regulatory requirements.

On‑site presence in Mounds View, MN is required 4 days per week. Domestic and international travel up to 25% is anticipated. Employees must be independently mobile and capable of interacting with a computer and colleagues.

Salary range (U.S. excluding Puerto Rico): $160,800–$241,200 (USD). Additional benefits include health, dental, vision insurance, HSA, FSA, life insurance, long‑term disability, 401(k) with match, Paid time off, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, and incentive plans.
