This is not a traditional “review‑only” Tax Manager role.
As a Tax Manager, you will serve as a technical leader, client advisor, and team developer
, working closely with firm leadership to improve how work gets done and how teams grow.
You will have direct visibility and influence across client service, team development, and firm operations—with a clear path to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities Client & Technical Leadership- Review and manage preparation of complex tax returns, including:
- Multi‑entity and consolidated business returns (S‑Corps, Partnerships)
- High‑net‑worth individual returns
- Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services
- Identify tax‑saving opportunities and risk areas
- Serve as a primary relationship manager for select clients
- Ensure technical accuracy, compliance, and consistency across engagements
- Supervise, mentor, and develop staff and senior accountants
- Provide structured coaching on technical tax matters and workflow execution
- Review returns and work papers with a focus on teaching and development
- Support performance management, feedback, and career progression
- Own project timelines and ensure work is delivered on time and within scope
- Drive workflow improvements, standardization, and capacity management
- Partner with leadership to implement and optimize firm technology (e.g., Canopy, Ultra Tax)
- Monitor and improve realization, utilization, and overall engagement efficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- CPA license (or actively pursuing with strong progress)
- 10+ years of public accounting experience with strong focus on business taxation
- Strong experience reviewing:
- Multi‑state, multi‑entity returns
- Proficiency with:
- Ultra Tax (Thomson Reuters)
- Accounting CS
- Proven ability to manage and develop team members
- Experience in a small to mid‑sized or growth‑oriented firm
- Strong project management and delegation skills
- Experience with workflow/practice management tools (e.g., Canopy or similar)

- Work is delivered accurately, on time, and with strong realization
- Clients view you as a trusted advisor, not just a reviewer
- You actively contribute to building a modern, scalable firm infrastructure
This role offers a clear and achievable path to Director and Principal.
Path to Director (Typically 18–36 months)Progression is based on demonstrated ability to:
- Independently manage a book of business and client relationships
- Lead and develop team members with strong retention outcomes
- Drive workflow efficiency, utilization, and realization improvements
- Serve as a go‑to technical resource on complex engagements
- Contribute to firm‑wide initiatives (process, technology, operations)
High‑performing Directors may be considered for Principal based on:
- Ability to grow and retain client relationships
- Leadership across teams and firm operations
- Contribution to business development and firm strategy
- Long‑term commitment to firm culture and team development
- Direct access to firm leadership and decision‑making
- Mentorship and coaching from principals
- Opportunities to take ownership of client relationships
