High Voltage Battery Test Engineer
Location:
Michigan (metro Detroit preferred due to daily local travel between test sites (Auburn Hills, Holly, other MI sites)).
Pay Range: $56 - $66/hr duration: 6 months.
Top 3 Skills- 3+ years of experience in high‑voltage battery testing or validation, including executing DVP&Rs for mechanical, environmental, performance, compliance, and abuse testing.
- Strong knowledge of HV battery test standards and safety regulations, such as UN 38.3, UL2580, SAE J2464/J2929, and ECE R100.
- Ability to analyze test data, perform root cause analysis, and manage test procedures and schedules using lab equipment and project management tools.
The Component and Subsystem Hardware Validation team is responsible for ensuring that components and subsystems meet all functional and reliability targets needed to facilitate our autonomous mobility service. As an HVB test engineer, you will be responsible for executing a robust and rigorous validation process by executing the approved DVP&R. This will include managing internal and external testing resources as well as supplier‑led validation activities, which ensure durability, reliability, and safety targets are satisfied. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to understand root causes of failures, identify mitigation strategies, and incorporate learnings into new designs.
Responsibilities- Execute the Design Validation Plan and Reports (DVP&Rs) to validate the HVB for Mechanical, Environmental, Performance, Compliance, and abuse testing.
- Attend the weekly cross‑functional DVP meetings and provide testing progress updates to the stakeholders.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for DVP&Rs, Test Procedures, RFQs, and Test Reports.
- Travel to the test facilities to review the test setups to ensure flawless execution of the Validation tests.
- Identify appropriate test assets and accessories, data acquisition systems, and sensors to ensure high‑quality test data.
- Assist in DUT teardowns and analysis.
- Analyze test data to create graphs, charts, tables, calculations, etc., and provide clear and concise reporting of test results.
- Conduct preliminary root cause analysis in case of a test failure to verify the test procedure and execution, test setup, DUT conditions, etc., were as expected.
- Design test fixtures necessary to complete testing.
- Manage validation schedule to ensure appropriate test assets are available and critical path items are identified.
- BS or MS in mechanical engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of HV Battery test or validation experience.
- Familiarity with HV Battery test standards such as UN 38.3, UL2580, SAE J2464, SAE J2929, ECE R100, and IEC
60068-2. - Experience working with DFMEAs and root cause analysis.
- Experience with requirements management tools (Polarion or equivalent).
- Experience with a wide variety of lab and measurement equipment, including but not limited to: DAQ, Power supply / E-load, Oscilloscope, Accelerometers, Thermocouples, CAN, LIN, and automotive Ethernet.
- Experience with Project Management tools such as JIRA and Kanban methodology.
- Familiarity with 3D design tools. CATIA 3DX, CATIA V5, or Solid Works preferred.
- EMI / EMC validation experience.
- Familiarity with Vector tools (CAN analyzer or similar).
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate or annual salary only, unless otherwise stated.
