As a Senior Tax Analyst
, you’ll take ownership of complex payroll tax matters
, working directly with clients and acting as a trusted expert. This role requires strong customer-facing experience and confidence handling escalated situations involving penalties, audits, or compliance risk.
You’ll often recognise immediately what a tax notice relates to and how to resolve it, while guiding clients calmly through the process. Your ability to de-escalate, reassure, and explain complex issues clearly is essential.
This role is fully remote
, with candidates required to be based in the Central or Eastern US time zones and work Eastern Time hours. During peak tax periods, additional hours may be required.
- Managing complex federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance
- Preparing, reviewing, and filing advanced payroll tax returns
- Completing amended filings and correcting prior submissions
- Investigating and resolving tax notices with minimal guidance
- Acting as the main point of contact for escalated client issues
- De-escalating high-pressure client situations professionally and confidently
- Explaining complex tax matters in clear, non-technical language
- Performing advanced reconciliations and root-cause analysis
- Supporting audits and agency inquiries
- Monitoring payroll tax changes across multiple US states
- Providing guidance and knowledge support to other analysts
This role involves less routine administration and greater ownership of high-impact, complex work.
What We’re Looking ForThis role is suited to an experienced payroll tax professional who is confident working independently and directly with clients.
You’ll be a strong fit if you:
- Have significant experience in a customer- or client-facing role (essential)
- Have strong hands-on payroll tax experience
- Have broad knowledge of payroll tax regulations across multiple US states
- Can quickly interpret tax notices and understand their implications
- Have experience completing amended filings and corrections
- Are comfortable handling escalated and sensitive client situations
- Communicate clearly and confidently with non-technical audiences
- Remain calm and professional during peak periods and deadlines
- Have strong Excel skills for analysis and reconciliation
- Ownership of complex, meaningful payroll tax work
- Recognition as a trusted subject-matter expert
- High-impact client interaction where judgement and communication matter
- Continued development across multi-state payroll tax compliance
