Municipal Engineer

The Municipal Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, and coordination of public infrastructure and municipal projects, including roadways, drainage systems, utilities, and land development improvements. This role works closely with municipal clients, public agencies, and internal engineering teams to deliver projects that support community infrastructure and public works initiatives.

The Municipal Engineer plays a key role in managing projects from concept through construction, providing technical expertise, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the successful execution of municipal and county projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, design, and oversee municipal infrastructure projects including roadways, stormwater systems, water/wastewater utilities, and site development.
  • Prepare engineering documents including plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Manage projects from design through construction administration, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Coordinate with municipal clients, public agencies, and utility authorities to support project delivery.
  • Attend and participate in public meetings, planning boards, and municipal reviews as required.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering support to municipalities and internal teams.
  • Review land development plans and ensure compliance with local codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Support permitting processes and regulatory approvals for municipal and infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, environmental, and structural engineers.
  • Perform site inspections and provide construction-phase support.
  • Maintain project documentation and ensure accurate record keeping.
  • Assist in evaluating infrastructure improvements and capital projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in municipal or civil engineering, preferably within the public sector.
  • Experience working on municipal, county, or public works infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of local codes, zoning regulations, and permitting processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Experience with project management, client coordination, and construction administration.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.E. license) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience working with planning boards, zoning boards, and public agencies.
  • Familiarity with site development, stormwater management, and utility design.
  • Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar tools.
