We are seeking a MEP Engineer with a focus on Mechanical and Plumbing design to support municipal, commercial, and public works projects from our client's Mount Holly, NJ office.
Job OverviewThe MEP Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and technical oversight of mechanical and plumbing systems for building and infrastructure projects. This role includes supporting design development, preparing construction drawings, coordinating across disciplines, and ensuring systems meet regulatory, safety, and performance standards. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth, field awareness, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Job Responsibilities- Design and develop mechanical and plumbing systems for commercial, public works, and municipal facilities
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools
- Conduct system load calculations, sizing, and performance modeling for HVAC, piping, water distribution, and mechanical systems
- Coordinate system design with structural, civil, electrical, and architectural teams
- Review construction submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs; provide technical responses and field support
- Conduct site visits to support installation, system verification, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Ensure compliance with building codes, environmental standards, ASHRAE requirements, and local jurisdiction regulations
- Recommend materials, equipment, and system configurations based on project needs
- Support cost estimating, value engineering, and feasibility assessments
- Prepare reports, design narratives, and documentation to support project approvals
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in MEP engineering (mechanical or plumbing focus)
- Strong technical experience in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems design
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and relevant design software
- Understanding of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and mechanical/plumbing regulations
- Ability to review contractor work, identify issues, and recommend solutions
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently
- Field experience supporting installation, inspection, or commissioning preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; EIT acceptable with plans to obtain PE
- Experience supporting municipal or public-sector infrastructure projects
- Experience with cost estimating and system commissioning
- Knowledge of energy efficiency standards, sustainability programs, or LEED principles
