Reports to: Principal
Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
- Management of Instructional Time
The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment before each lesson, starts the class promptly, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. - Management of Student Behavior
The teacher establishes rules and procedures for classroom conduct, monitors behavior during all activities and transitions, and addresses inappropriate behavior consistently while maintaining student dignity. - Instructional Presentation
The teacher reviews prior material, introduces new objectives, delivers lessons fluently, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with a high rate of success, and summarizes key points at lesson end. - Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance
The teacher sets clear work standards, circulates for feedback, uses oral and written checks, and poses questions one at a time. - Instructional Feedback
The teacher offers timely feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, reinforcing correct responses and probing incorrect or missing answers. - Facilitating Instruction
The teacher develops instructional plans aligned with curricular goals, uses assessment data to guide instruction, keeps accurate records, and utilizes available resources. - Interacting Within the Educational Environment
The teacher treats all students fairly, and interacts effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community. - Performing Non‑Instructional Duties
The teacher completes assigned non‑instructional duties, follows school policies, engages in professional development, and progresses toward a current NC Educator’s License.

Performs other related work as required.
Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum QualificationsPhysical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs. Must exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Light work physical requirements apply.
Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge the functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information and receive instructions from superiors.
Language Ability: Ability to read varied correspondence, reports, and forms, and prepare simple instructional materials using prescribed format.
Intelligence: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record, deliver, and explain information in a variety of technical or professional languages, including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas, perform basic arithmetic, and apply principles of descriptive statistics and inference.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately when using office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools with minimal eye/hand/foot coordination required.
Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to adapt to stress and emergency situations while interacting with people beyond basic instructions.
