Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant

The employee provides support to students who have health, behavioral, or instructional needs to meet Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and have success in the general curriculum. Job specific duties may include behavior support, client-specific care, pre-kindergarten classes, visually impaired classes, job coaching, and (sub) bus driver responsibilities. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include understanding child development, organizing assignments, using sound judgment, knowledge of classroom activities, daily routines, student handbook rules, emergency procedures, adapting instruction, principles of organization and administration, curriculum knowledge, monitoring student safety, motivating students, maintaining a clean environment, performing clerical duties, maintaining order, operating office machines, maintaining files, understanding and following instructions, and establishing effective working relationships.

Education and experience requirements include a high school diploma, minimum of 48 semester hours or an associate's degree, and willingness to obtain a CDL if required. This position reports to the school principal and is classified as non-exempt. Salary is grade 54.
