EC Teacher - General Curriculum @ Pinewood Elementary Performing Arts Academy

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Provide special education services to students identified as disabled under State and Federal regulations.
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) compatible with students’ age and developmental levels.
• Create lesson plans, adapt materials, and design activities to help students develop academic, behavioral, and social skills to meet IEP goals.
• Monitor student progress and maintain records in compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
• Plan, organize, and present instruction using various teaching methods tailored to student needs.
• Develop and update IEPs using diagnostic information from assessments.
• Provide direct special education instruction and assist students with personal and self-help needs.
• Maintain classroom discipline, deescalate inappropriate behaviors, teach behavioral strategies, and record restraints when necessary.
• Communicate with parents through periodic written progress reports.
• Act as case coordinator, consulting with caregivers, school professionals, and parents to meet student needs.
• Use classroom tools and equipment such as computers, copiers, and special needs equipment.
• Perform other related duties as required.

The company is looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Licensure in Special Education/General Curriculum (88091) or eligibility for licensure.
• Knowledge of educational and exceptional children’s laws, regulations, curricula, instructional methods, and cognitive development.
• Understanding of traits and characteristics of various disabilities.
• Ability to instruct and assess students based on North Carolina Standard Course of Study/Common Core.
• Skills to maintain safety, motivate students, and manage classroom order and discipline.
• Ability to perform clerical duties, operate office machines, maintain records, and follow oral and written instructions.
• Strong communication skills to convey information and establish effective working relationships.
• Capacity to apply logical thinking to solve problems and handle emergency situations.
• Physical ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and manage classroom activities safely.

• Salary according to the North Carolina Teacher’s Salary Schedule.
