Job Summary
Senior Engineer serving as a Subject Matter Expert for motors across multiple geographic regions. The role provides technical support for operations, maintenance, and projects, overseeing motor‑related engineering activities within the organization.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support for operations, maintenance, and project activities for motors across multiple regions.
- Manage work in engineering specializations with minimal supervision.
- Identify problems, develop solutions, and take action to resolve issues.
- Serve as the top‑level technical authority across RRE, providing oversight and guidance to station and regional engineers and technologists in all motor operations and maintenance areas.
- Develop and review specifications for new equipment, review test results, and support troubleshooting efforts.
- Develop and assess reliability strategies for motor assets across all RRE regions.
- Produce technical documentation (standards, guidelines, procedures) to support design, operations, and maintenance of RRE’s motor assets.
- Engage with external service providers to guide repair and replacement activities, ensuring Duke Energy standards are consistently applied.
- Analysis of on‑line and off‑line electrical test results (e.g., insulation resistance, motor current signature analysis).
- Review of repair plans and activities.
- Knowledge of motor design and construction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of six (6) years of engineering work experience.
- Proficiency in researching design issues, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and preparing presentations.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in engineering theories and principles.
- Proficiency in project management principles.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience in the utility industry.
- Hybrid – Work performed from both remote and onsite locations after onboarding; hybrid employees should reside within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
- Incumbent may be based within a reasonable commute to any Duke Energy facility within the Duke Energy footprint.
- Position supports generation facilities of all technologies (coal, gas, renewable) across all Duke Energy operating regions.
- Routine travel within the home region required (approximately 5‑10%). Occasional travel to other regions and outside Duke Energy territory required (less than 5%).
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or a Professional Engineer (PE) designation.
- Minimum of six (6) years of engineering experience or five (5) years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Master’s degree in Engineering considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
5‑15% of the time.
