The City of Mount Holly Planning Department is looking to hire a part-time intern (up to 16 hours a week) for Spring 2027. The intern would be either a junior or senior in a bachelor program or a master’s student studying planning, geography, public administration, or a closely related field. The internship will be in-person, will run from Monday, January 11th to Friday, April 16th, and will be a paid internship experience.

The pay range for the internship is $14.00 to $16.00 an hour based on the educational attainment of the applicant. (Juniors/Seniors-$14.00-Master Students-$16.00). Time will be paid for hours worked and checks will be provided every two weeks.

The internship will encompass both project work, which could include working text amendments & rezonings, assisting with events, using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro to complete various projects, & routine office work-including researching, filing, taking meeting minutes, proofing documents, compiling GIS datasets & assisting greeting customers.

The potential intern should have potential projects in mind-when applying, but if none are provided- projects will be assigned by the Planning Department. The number of projects completed and their complexity will depend on the educational attainment of the intern and the length of their commitment to the City. The goal of these projects is to help interns gain experience, and provide products that they can market as they advance in their career.

The intern will be assigned and get experience working in all four of the Planning Department’s sections-which include-Administration, Planning, Permitting & Code Enforcement, and GIS Mapping. The intern, if interested, will also have the opportunity to shadow other departments and work units in the City & is encouraged to attend City Council and advisory board meetings.

The selected intern will be provided a computer and phone by the City to facilitate their work during the internship experience.
