GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

An employee in this position oversees and performs maintenance work in City Booster and Lift Stations, and where else needed. Reports directly to the Field Operations Manager of the Utilities Department.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Work includes electrical, plumbing, and pump maintenance and additional duties as required. This employee will work with limited supervision and will supervise the Pump Technician position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs daily operation and maintenance of all components of water and wastewater pump stations including valves, controls, air compressors and standby generator equipment and performs minor repairs;
  • Perform general maintenance activities such as, but not limited to, electrical, pump maintenance, equipment controls, minor plumbing and building maintenance;
  • Performs planned and corrective maintenance to building, fixtures, systems and equipment;
  • Pulls, installs and performs minor repairs of all water and wastewater pumps and motors;
  • Makes regular tours of plant and equipment assisting in plant operations, pump stations and lift stations throughout the water and sewer infrastructure;
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs all pump control systems, including level controllers and float switches;
  • Maintains, adjusts and repairs pressure reducing valves (PRV’s);
  • Regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions;
  • Cleans and services pumps, motors and other equipment;
  • Makes minor or emergency repairs and performs minor preventive maintenance on plant equipment;
  • Maintains various maintenance records for all equipment, including use of preventive maintenance computer software systems;
  • Operates, repairs and maintains wet well odor aerators;
  • Performs other assigned duties as required.
JOB RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS

This position involves work requiring the employee to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force and less force frequently to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, hearing, and repetitive motions. Sufficient visual acuity is required to use measurement devices, assemble or fabricate parts at distances close to the eye, and visually inspect small devices for flaws.

An employee in this position may be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions; vibration; the hazards of working in high places or near moving mechanical parts; function in narrow aisles or passageways; and fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation. An employee in this position could be “reasonably anticipated: as a result of performing their job duties to face contact with potentially infectious materials.

REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of electrical code and electrical safety. Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment utilized in building maintenance. Knowledge of occupational hazards and the necessary safety precautions applicable to building maintenance work. Skilled in use and care of common hand tools used in building and equipment maintenance. The ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms and the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
