Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician

The Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician supports a high-volume manufacturing operation by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production machinery and related systems. This role focuses on both mechanical and electrical maintenance, helping to improve equipment uptime, operating efficiency, and overall reliability across a wide range of production lines that serve consumer, environmental, agricultural, medical, dental, and tabletop product markets.

Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned work orders and daily maintenance checklists in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Document all repairs, maintenance activities, test results, equipment modifications, and machine performance using established procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues involving production, facility, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Respond quickly to urgent equipment calls and production breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose equipment issues using multimeters, meggers, strobe lights, oscilloscopes, laser-alignment tools, and other test equipment.
  • Service AC and DC drives, PLCs, control networks, input/output systems, motors, and related electrical components.
  • Repair or replace defective electrical and mechanical equipment and components as needed.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Assist with root-cause analysis following equipment failures and contribute to corrective action plans.
  • Identify parts and materials required to complete repairs and communicate needs through appropriate channels.
  • Assist with new equipment installations and equipment-modification projects to support production improvements.
  • Document mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and steam-system modifications for future reference.
  • Perform production grade changeovers and roll changes based on operational demand and schedule requirements.
  • Work cooperatively with production employees, maintenance team members, and outside contractors to coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Attend daily meetings to review maintenance priorities, production needs, and upcoming work.
  • Create and process urgent work orders as assigned to address critical equipment issues.
  • Perform additional maintenance duties as needed to support the overall operation of the facility.
Essential Skills
  • Industrial maintenance experience within a production or manufacturing environment, with hands-on responsibility for maintaining operating equipment.
  • Intermediate or stronger mechanical maintenance knowledge, including experience working on moving machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Basic electrical and electronic circuit knowledge, with the ability to safely work on industrial electrical components.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting production machinery and support equipment to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical prints, assembly drawings, and electrical schematics.
  • Working knowledge of motor controls, PLCs, and industrial communication systems used in manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to document work clearly and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including use of email and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work effectively under production pressure and time constraints.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Ability to provide and use basic metric and standard hand tools required for industrial maintenance work.
  • Comfort working in a role that is approximately 65% mechanical maintenance and 35% electrical maintenance, supporting both disciplines.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Approximately five years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Post-secondary technical education or industrial-maintenance training is desirable.
  • Experience with relay logic and ladder logic used in industrial control systems.
  • Experience working with pneumatic, hydraulic, and steam systems in a production setting.
  • Experience using SAP or another computerized maintenance management system to manage work orders and maintenance history.
  • Experience safely operating shop equipment such as lathes, mills, presses, welders, and saws.
  • Experience rigging machine rollers or components for movement using an overhead crane.
  • Exposure to airlaid or finishing processes in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot PLCs and related control systems.
  • Comfort working with a variety of technologies, including drives, controls, and industrial communication networks.
