This position performs tasks required for the operation of hydraulic excavation equipment for the construction/upgrade of underground utilities, including communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, electric, and more. Essential functions and responsibilities include loading and unloading equipment in a secure and damage-free manner, transporting associated tools, materials, and/or equipment safely, completing a daily inspection of equipment prior to commencing work, operating the equipment to assist in placing underground utilities, locating existing underground utilities and verifying them according to blueprints, identifying utilities in the construction area and bore path, connecting/stub-up conduit and wire, as required, digging pits, trenches, or potholes as required, including windows when crossing utilities, restoring and/or landscaping disturbed areas of the jobsite, accurately completing all required company documentation for each assignment, adhering to all established company safety policies and performing work in a safe manner, and performing other duties as assigned to help the team complete a project.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include the ability to read and interpret engineering/construction prints, plans, and specifications, knowledge of utility depths and placements, general knowledge of construction practices, ability to work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels, ability to work in trenches, excavations, and manholes, attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks, ability to work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively within a team environment, excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, ability to move materials/equipment weighing up to 80 pounds, ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions.
Preferred education and experience include one year of experience operating a directional bore drill, previous rock boring experience, one year of Hydraulic Excavators, Skid Loader, and Dozer experience, and Class A CDL. Additional eligibility qualifications include willingness and ability to travel out of town with occasional overnight stays to assigned projects, ability to lift at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis, passing a pre-employment drug test and criminal background screen, and completing and passing a DOT Physical.
Physical demands typically require balancing, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, hearing, and talking. Working conditions expose the employee to varying weather conditions as they will be driving in all types of conditions. This position may require travel, which could include traveling to projects in different cities and overnight stays.
