Machine Operator, Manufacturing & Industrial Operations

Operate machines such as cutoff saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines and punches that cut shape and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes and structures, and apply coatings to racks by performing the following duties.
Essential Functions- Operates fabrication shop and machine shop machinery and equipment.
- Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
- Observes machine operation to detect part defects or machine malfunction.
- Measures parts dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
- Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from parts.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Verifies conformance of finished part to specifications.
- Follows company safety procedures and embraces a culture of safety within the machine shop.

Work is performed in a manufacturing facility with drill presses, metal cutting and other industrial equipment. Noise levels fluctuate from moderate to high. The employee must wear appropriate personal safety protection equipment, which may include safety glasses and sometimes protective clothing.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to see, talk or hear. The employee frequently stands, walks, uses hands and fingers, handles or feels, and reaches with hands and arms. Lifting items up to 75 pounds. Moving from place to place within the manufacturing facility and reaching for items above and below desk level.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–5 years experience operating machine shop equipment.
- Basic knowledge in math and decimal places.
- Knowledge in the use of gages, calipers, measuring tools, and the cleaning of sharp edges.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment and meet production quotas.
